Gigs

Every gig starts with a blues jam session, from 3pm. The session goes to 5:30pm when we clear the stage for our feature artist.

Musicians of any level are welcome to join in – just bring your instrument. Drums, amps and mics are supplied.

SHBC has charted some blues standards as a reference (check out our Songbook here). Jammers might find it helpful to be familiar with some of these songs in case they come up. The Jam isn't moderated - you can play anything as long as it's blues (or a close relation).

DOUBLE HEADER

Marshall Okell + Ozone Street

Marshall Okell is best known as the front man and driving force behind Marshall & The Fro, but his solo performances strip things back to their rawest and most electrifying form. He is joined by local legend Manzi, who brings his own completely unique brand of chaos, rhythm and musical mischief to the stage. Armed with washboards, Blues Harps, LED lights and a handful of 12-gauge shotgun shells worn across his fingers, Manzi adds a raw, percussive edge to the music — along with an irreverent sense of humour and the kind of off-the-cuff energy that makes every show different.

Together, Marshall and Manzi create a loose, unpredictable and seriously entertaining Blues and roots duo,
where the music, laughs and audience interaction happen in the moment.

Ozone Street are a four-piece blues fusion outfit hailing from the Bass Coast. Their music has been called “a refreshing blend of vintage blues and surf-tinged melodies that carry listeners from sun-soaked shores to dimly lit blues bars.” Don’t be fooled by their fresh faces—this band delivers a sound that’s raw, electrifying, and impossible to ignore.

BAG O' NAILS

Bag O’ Nails are a powerhouse blues-rock trio who’ve been electrifying audiences with their high-octane performances since 2004.
Drawing inspiration from legends like Gary Moore and Jeff Healey, guitarist and vocalist Trevor Murray delivers searing solos and soulful vocals often described as a mix of Joe Cocker and Bruce Springsteen. Backed by the thunderous rhythm section of John and Kaos, the band unleashes a wall of sound worthy of the great rock trios.

Their debut EP Attitude Blues and live album Nailed Live at St Andrews Hotel both earned strong airplay across Victoria, with PBS FM’s Steve Passiouras calling the latter “an absolute scorcher.”

If you like your blues served with raw energy and dirty rock ’n’ roll swagger—these guys deliver.

CHECKERBOARD LOUNGE

Inspirational front man Carl Pannuzzo (drums and vocals), revered as one of Australia’s greatest voices, master guitarist Shannon Bourne, Hammond virtuoso Tim Neal, and ineffable bassist Zoë Frater are Checkerboard Lounge, breathing fire, virtuosity and improvisation into blues, classic soul and roots originals.

Their multi-award-winning, ARIA-nominated album Sun Sessions, recorded at the legendary Sun Studio, Memphis, Tennessee, catapulted the band to nationwide recognition. Recent release ‘Roller Coaster’ shot to the top 5 of several national charts and recent limited edition vinyl release ‘Live at Jazzlab’ with Australian Jazz and Blues pioneer Bob Sedergreen sold out within a month of its release.

As a live act, no video can really recreate the experience that gleans such ecstatic audience response. An undeniable powerhouse, world class musicianship, dynamic, passionate and playful, Checkerboard are the very essence of a live music experience.
